On the River

Fishing Rods Display

A Poem

Figure 1. Fishing Rods Display

Abstract

On the River is a poem about the excitement of trying to reel in a fish and the sudden disappointment of having the fishing pole break. It captures the tension and unpredictability of the moment while showing how adventure in nature can quickly shift from triumph to loss. Through vivid imagery and focused emotion, the poem reflects both the thrill and frustration of the experience.

The tug of the line

Draws me in.

The flash of blue

Of green, a fin

Blindly I follow

A path I cannot see

The journey I'm taking

A mystery to me

I struggle against it

I reel and I spin

I fight an epic battle

One I can win.

The end is so close

I see the light

I'm filled with excitement

It feels so right.

I begin the final pull

And hope that luck will lend

OH NO! It SNAPPED! my fishing pole…

The end
